Prompt structure

Using the right words is crucial when interacting with language to image models. Sometimes mention of one keyword can dramatically change the end results.

Here's my suggested prompt structure after I spend days specifically ideating logos in Midjourney.

Firstly, explicitly mention that you need a logo or symbol. Great keywords for that are "symbol", "logo", and "vector logo".

Then, mention the style that you'd like. I've tested multiple options and prompts "minimalistic", "solid line", and "simplified" get the job done in most cases.

Another suggestion is to include a person or studio whose style you like. It can be famous designers like Massimo Vignelli, Sagi Haviv, Michael Bierut, and Paul Rand. Or studios like Koto or Pentagram.

Finally, include a "solid background" to get rid of colorful or blurry backgrounds and focus on the symbol and logo.

Midjourney hack

It's one of the coolest features of Midjourney. What if I tell you, that it can actually suggest to you what keywords to use inside the prompt? How:

  1. Find and save logos that you like

  2. Use the command /describe

  3. Upload/add a link to the image

  4. Midjourney will decompose the image, give you four variants of the prompt

Take some of the keywords that it used and put them inside your prompt to get the style that you want!

Conclusion

With the right prompts, Midjourney can be a powerful tool to design logos. It can save time both for professional designers who need help in ideation and for people who have never touched graphical editors.
