Design Feedback

Not a lot of people know, but you can upload your design drafts and ask ChatGPT for feedback. Export screens as PNGs and send them to the dialog.

It can provide a fresh perspective and point out potential usability issues, aesthetic improvements, or alternative design approaches.

Here's a prompt that you can copy-paste: Act as senior designer on design critique session. I will send you a UI design, give me a summary of the strong and weak sides. Give a list of suggested improvements.

User Role-play

User interviews are an irreplaceable part of the UI design process. With limited time and access, sometimes it can be hard to make them. ChatGPT can help you with that!

Describe your users, where they are from, what technical knowledge they have, etc. and ask GPT to role-play. You can ask questions you'd ask in the interview. You can even user-test some of your designs by sending them and requesting feedback from this perspective.

GPT was trained on the data of millions of users, and underneath "contains" their experiences. Use it to the full power!

Competitor Analysis

ChatGPT can be useful for design research in many ways. My favorite is competitor research. You can directly ask GPT for references of apps with the functionality that you need.

You can also feed it the information about your competitors you know, ask for summary and recommendations. It can highlight strengths and weaknesses, guiding your design strategy to stand out in the market.

Development Handoff

ChatGPT helps developers with coding tasks, but what it can also do, is to help you speak with devs using the same language. If developers say that something is impossible to implement, ask for additional details and ask ChatGPT to explain it to you in simpler terms.

Moreover, you can ask it to come up with alternative designs that won't have this problem during implementation. Use my prompt: Act as a senior front-end developer. I will ask you questions about UI design implementation and your job is to answer and explain to me. Consider that I have limited technical knowledge.

Generate Ideas

When starting a new project, brainstorming sessions can sometimes hit a dead end. ChatGPT can generate a wide range of ideas from a simple prompt. For example, if you're designing a new app interface, you can ask ChatGPT for suggestions on layout, color schemes, or features.

Copywriting

Copy is crucial regardless of whether it’s for marketing materials or UI designs. GPT can generate short and clear text tailored to your needs, saving you time and ensuring stylistic consistency in tone.

Summary

AI and generative models keep improving and evolve each week. Don't be scared that they replace you, but embrace the change and make them a tool that helps you create better designs faster.
